LANGO

LANGO is a comprehensive language-learning solution designed to facilitate the integration of refugees and newcomers. The project recognizes the significance of language acquisition in successful integration and aims to provide a free, fun, and user-friendly mobile application for language learning. The app, available for download in 2021, will offer courses in five target languages (Turkish, English, Dutch, French, and Greek) and ten support languages (Arabic, Farsi, Pashto, Urdu, Punjabi, Sorani, Kurmanji, Somali, Tigrinya, Albanian).

The LANGO phone app will cover essential subjects for linguistic and cultural adaptation, featuring illustrated vocabulary for easy recognition, audio files for nuanced pronunciation, and engaging animated audio-visual content. The topics covered will be tailored to each partner country, incorporating country-specific concepts to facilitate integration.

Project outputs include a mobile app that serves as a gamified language-learning tool, a database of language learning materials, and a web portal integrated with the app. The web portal, developed in an open-source environment, will host audiovisual content, quizzes, lessons, a material bank, a news and events section, and a forum for members.

The audiovisual content, presented as ten short animations depicting daily life, will be adapted and translated into all target languages. These animations will be embedded into the mobile app and hosted on the web portal.

Given the increased migration resulting from troubled political situations in the Middle East and Asia, the project recognizes the need for additional tools to support the integration of immigrants and refugees in Turkey and the EU. Through the LANGO app and web portal, refugees and newcomers can study languages, familiarize themselves with the culture of their new country, and gain the necessary skills for successful integration.
