LANGO

The core of successful integration is language acquisition. Mobile applications are successful educational resources for refugees and newcomers who are primarily digitally literate and interested in new technologies. In the framework of this project, we focus on establishing a language-learning solution that is free, fun, and easy to use for all levels of language proficiency.  LANGO enables refugees and newcomers to study and learn languages and become familiar with the culture of their new country. This mobile application will be ready for download on the application markets free of cost in 2021. 

The application will consist of five target languages (Turkish, English, Dutch, French, and Greek) and ten support languages: Arabic, Farsi, Pashto, Urdu, Punjabi, Sorani, Kurmanji, Somali, Tigrinya, Albanian.

The LANGO phone app will include subjects that are necessary for linguistic and cultural adaptation in a new country. Illustrated vocabulary to facilitate recognition. Audio files for pronunciation nuances.  Animated audio-visual content to engage users in innovative ways. The topics will involve country-specific concepts to assist integration in each of the partner countries.  

Project Outputs and results

MOBILE APP

A Mobile phone application will be designed as a free, fun, game containing solution to language learning on the go. The application will be available in five target languages; Dutch, English, French, Greek and Turkish, and ten support languages in the Lango Application; Arabic, Sorani, Punjabi, Somali, Tigrinya, Urdu, Albanian, Pashto, Farsi and Kurmanji.

DATABASE

Language learning material including extensive vocabulary glossaries on different topics in each partner language and English, will be used for creating language material packages with different kinds of activities and exercises for the phone app and web portal. 

WEB PORTAL

The Lango portal will be fully integrated with the phone app and made in an open-source environment. It will contain the audiovisual content along with quizzes games and lessons in accompaniment, material bank, and News and Events area, as well as a forum for members. 

AUDIOVISUAL CONTENT

The audiovisual content will take shape as 10 short animations depicting daily life. These will be adapted and translated to include all the target languages. They will be hosted on the web portal and embedded into the mobile phone app.
