Re-Start

Re-Start: Entrepreneurship Support for Refugees and Migrants was a project aimed at providing support and resources for refugees and migrants interested in starting their own businesses. The project recognized that refugees and migrants often face unique challenges and barriers to entrepreneurship, including legal status issues, language barriers, limited entrepreneurial skills, and a lack of knowledge about the local business environment.

To address these challenges, Re-Start conducted extensive research in each partner organization's country. This research formed the basis for the development of an online guidebook and database of resources. The guidebook, available in multiple languages including Spanish, Finnish, Portuguese, French, and English, provided comprehensive information on starting a new business for refugees. It covered a wide range of topics, including residency requirements, funding options, taxation, and sector-specific legislation.

The resources presented in both PDF and navigable web pages aimed to provide refugees and migrants with the necessary information to navigate the complexities of starting a business in their host countries. By consolidating relevant information and links in one place, the project aimed to make the process more accessible and understandable for aspiring refugee and migrant entrepreneurs.

The project recognized the potential of refugee and migrant entrepreneurs to contribute to the local economy and create positive social impacts. These entrepreneurs often focused on sectors that aligned with their cultural backgrounds or resettlement experiences, providing valuable goods and services to their communities. Additionally, they often supported their fellow migrants through employment opportunities and contributed to the supply chain between the host country and their country of origin.

Through the Re-Start project, refugees and migrants were given the tools and resources necessary to overcome barriers and pursue their entrepreneurial aspirations. By empowering them to start and sustain their businesses, the project aimed to foster economic inclusion and empower individuals to shape their own futures in their new host countries.
